A PhD Studentship is available in our lab, part of the European Program SYNTRAIN.
One (1) PhD Studentship Position
The Cell Cycle Laboratory (ccl.med.upatras.gr), School of Medicine, University of Patras in Greece, Group Leader Prof. Zoi Lygerou and the European Program SYNTRAIN (syntrain.ku.dk), invite applications for one (1) PhD student position.
We are looking for a bright and highly motivated candidate to join our interdisciplinary team studying pathways maintaining genome integrity in human cells and their misregulation in cancer. Cells with aberrations in DNA replication licensing factors will be used in synthetic lethality approaches to identify pathways essential for cancer cell survival under replication stress. Advanced live-cell imaging will be combined to genetic approaches for the functional characterization of the identified pathways, while compounds targeting licensing factors will be characterized in vivo and in vitro as antitumor drugs for breast and ovarian cancer.
The SYNTRAIN Project:
The PhD position is part of the Marie Curie ITN European SYNTRAIN network, an international group of 9 top-quality European research laboratories and 1 company located in 7 countries. The SYNTRAIN network is equipped with a broad and complementary spectrum of advanced research methodologies enabling associated fellows to conduct frontline research. The training program includes state-of-the-art methods in drug and phenotype screening, genetically engineered mouse models, cell biology and biochemistry. The project will offer great opportunities to establish collaborations throughout Europe, and will provide an interdisciplinary training in multiple fields. As part of the SYNTRAIN network, the PhD student will participate in planned secondments and outreach activities in partner laboratories of the network.
